The purpose of the project is to help improve food security for the Urarina and Shawi indigenous communities by strengthening the production, access, and consumption of nutritious foods with cultural identity.
Agrobiodiversity and food security in indigenous communities, continuation
Scope: Indigenous communities of the Urarina people in the province of Loreto Nauta and indigenous communities of the Shawi people in the province of Alto Amazonas in the department of Loreto.
Target population: 550 families
The purpose of the project is to contribute to improving food security for the Urarina and Shawi indigenous communities through the development of three components:
Indigenous productive systems.- We strengthen sustainable productive systems that protect agrobiodiversity and value ancestral knowledge through agroecological practices.
Indigenous food systems management.- We promote the improvement of nutritional status, especially for women and children under five years old, through the consumption of diverse and nutritious foods produced locally.
Indigenous leadership in decision-making spaces.- We promote the active participation of community leaders to protect the comprehensive health of their communities, with special focus on women, proposals and decisions are promoted in local, provincial, and regional spaces.
